SES Principal's Message

September 2023

As the Principal of the Springhill Elementary Schools (Junction Road & West End Memorial), it is a pleasure for us to write this welcome message! Our school website has been made possible through team work and partnerships which included the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education, the Chignecto Family of Schools and the staff and students of the Springhill Elementary Schools. The calendar is set for the 2023-2024 school year and this may be helpful for families to plan around our special events, such as, school spirit day, parent/teacher conferences, school picture day, as well as, days when students do not have school.

It is difficult to highlight all the very important activities that are part of the daily lives of the students at Junction Road School and West End Memorial School.

Our schools have a shared School Advisory Council. Harold Delaney is the chairperson of the School Advisory Council with 10 members representing the schools and the community, and the school principal and Vice-Principal act as a permanent members.

Vernon Taylor is our Family of Schools Supervisor, and Gary Adams is the Director of Education for CCRCE with the main office in Truro, responsible for more than 90 schools in Pictou, Colchester-East Hants and Cumberland Counties.

Our curriculum is structured by the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the main components of the elementary program include English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health, French (grades 4-6), Physical Education, Music and Visual Arts. We have many talented young people, and it would take pages and pages to write about all the wonderful things that happen in our schools and all the accomplishments of our students and teachers. Please visit our website for updates on the special events and learning opportunities at SES!

We are very lucky to have dedicated teachers and parents who care about the education of our children. On a regular basis, we all work towards ensuring "peaceful schools, peaceful playgrounds." We appreciate all the support that our tireless volunteers and the community give us so that we continue to have effective schools in the community of Springhill. So, as you visit our website, we hope that you will enjoy learning about our elementary schools in Springhill, Nova Scotia.

We are looking forward to a great year!
